My children got their mother back
"I'd been trying to get sober for four years, and had been to three other rehabs. I had a really bad relapse where I was in the hospital six times. My dad kept begging me to call The Manor, and one day, I was finally at my rock bottom, and I decided to call… Since my time at The Manor everything has changed. My family life is incredible. Just yesterday I was leaving to a meeting, and my son goes, "Bye, love you." And I just teared up, because they never used to tell me before that they loved me. And now it's just a regular thing, they say it daily. The team at The Manor has not only helped me, but they've helped my boys get their mom back, my husband get his wife back."

Against all odds
"I had lost the ability to control my abuse of alcohol and it was having an increasing — and likely soon to be catastrophic — effect on my relationship with my family, my ability to perform professionally and my health. I needed to get help. I chose The Manor because if I had to be in rehab, it was a beautiful place to be. And because of what I learned about the program; these are people who are experts, who really know what they're doing, who are going to give me a high level of care. I knew if I'm going to buy this service, that's what I want. And although it was a significant investment, it was absolutely worth every penny. The investment in my own life was worth it. I am grateful for the opportunity to have started that journey. It's continued for seven years in some pretty profound ways. Yesterday was our 32nd wedding anniversary. Seven years ago, I'm not sure I, or my wife, or a lot of people around us would have put big odds on that."

Ripples in the pond
"I remember hearing at The Manor, that we have an opportunity to heal generations moving forward. Thinking about past traumas and just all the things that led to my experience. I do not take for granted that if I had not made my own choices – my choices one day at a time to heal – that it allowed for this ripple effect. There's just been so many beautiful ripples in the pond…I threw that stone in and just kept at it. I see the ripples everywhere. Literally everything has changed. I sleep now…I eat healthy and exercise. I guess from the outside everything looks different and from the inside everything is different."

The first time I felt safe
"When I stepped out of the car on The Manor property, [staff were] there to greet me and the moment that I was greeted…was the first time in my life that I felt safe and that I knew I was going to be taken care of. There are coaches who have worked recovery 12-step programs. It meant a lot to me to be working with people who have been through it. They've walked the same life, and it's working for them. They're sober, they've got long-term sobriety and recovery. Today, oh my God, my life is different in every single way. I had anxiety before I came to The Manor — that left. Before, I could not keep a relationship to save my life. Now I'm in a long-term committed relationship, and we're getting married in February. Only because of the program. I have a beautiful family. My relationship with my family is much, much better. Everything is better, even the things that are not pleasant are fine, because I'm okay with it, because I'm sober, so I can deal with it sober. We lose loved ones, we lose things. Bad things happen, but now we have the ability to stay, to deal with it. So everything is different."

I don't wake up with secrets
"I had relapsed after seven or eight years of sobriety, and I was just a classic relapse story: it picked up worse than it was before and I quickly spiraled. It turned my life upside down. It was kind of a do-or-die situation. It was pretty dire. The Manor was different from the other place I'd been treated. The approach was really individual. I felt very welcomed right away when I got there. And in retrospect now, almost four years since I left there, I think the most important time was where they started preparing me for when I left. That was really the key. In the other place I'd been treated, they pretty much sent you on your way with not a whole lot to fall back on. With The Manor, I still do some of the things I left there with. And now, the biggest difference in my life is that I am brutally honest with everyone around me and myself. I don't feel that I need to be the smartest person in the room or impress people anymore. I can just be myself. I spent so much of my life trying to be the best. And I really was going about it in totally the wrong way. So the most refreshing part of everything is just being able to be myself. I don't wake up with secrets anymore. "

I'm good enough
"I was programmed for investment work…to understand real estate, taking on highly difficult projects…a lot of that was driven by finding a place to deal with shame and anger, and those external things were put on me, not things that I needed to carry. I couldn't connect with emotion in the body, and I didn't quite understand it when I left. Tammy showed me something that probably was the start of this evolution, my kind of spiritual journey, because I was raised in no religion, no nothing. That was a critical piece. And then there was a [breathwork] exercise that we did…I lost emotional control in a way that I haven't since I was probably younger than 10. Those were eye openers. It was helpful to do the ketamine work. If you're not doing that in a very well-coached environment, it really doesn't have much value. You have to have somebody who's walking you through what you're doing. [That experience] allowed me to open a lot of doors for myself. And I had to let go of a lot of things to do that. I had to stop worrying about what other people thought. I had to stop worrying about societal expectations and all that kind of stuff, and say, you know, I'm good enough. "
